About Our Ministry
Holland Rescue Mission is a shelter that seeks to meet the needs of homeless men, women, and children in the West Michigan area. We offer a wide range of Christ-driven services that address the root issues of homelessness to help restore and transform lives.
At Holland Rescue Mission, it’s our desire to see homelessness end for each person who walks through our doors. We do this by offering them a hand up, not a handout.
In accordance with Federal Fair Housing Law, Holland Rescue Mission does not discriminate against any person because of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, or national origin.
Holland Rescue Mission is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
Holland Rescue Mission exists to glorify God by proclaiming and demonstrating His love through Christ-centered programs of excellence for the homeless and less fortunate.
The vision of the Holland Rescue Mission is to lead people to changed lives in Christ.
The doctrinal statement of Holland Rescue Mission is as follows:
We believe in the Scripture of the Old and New Testaments as verbally inspired by God and that they are of supreme and final authority in faith and life.
We affirm the inerrant Scripture to be the sole source of written divine revelation which alone can bind the conscience. The Bible alone teaches all that is necessary for our salvation from sin and is the standard by which all Christian behavior must be measured.
We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, and is truly God and truly man.
We believe in one God eternally existing in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
We believe that man was created in the image of God, that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death which is separation from God, and that all human beings are born with a sinful nature.
We affirm that in salvation we are rescued from God’s wrath by His grace alone, apart from any human merit. It is the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit that brings us to Christ by releasing us from the bondage to sin and raising us from spiritual death to spiritual life.
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures as a sinless representative and substitutionary sacrifice, and that all who truly believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood.
We affirm that our salvation is accomplished only by the mediatorial work of the historical Christ on the cross. His sinless life and substitutionary atonement alone are sufficient for our justification and our reconciliation to the Father, by satisfying His perfect justice.
We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, His ascension into Heaven, and His present life there for us as High Priest and Advocate.
We believe in “that blessed hope,” the personal return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We believe that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God.
We affirm that our justification is received by faith alone, apart from any human work. In justification, God pardons the sinner and declares us righteous in His sight by imputing our sin to Christ and by imputing Christ’s righteousness to us.
We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, the everlasting blessedness of the saved, and the everlasting punishment of the lost.
We affirm that because our salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, and because of Christ alone, it is for God’s glory, and that we must glorify Him in all things. We endeavor, therefore, to live our lives before the face of God, and under His authority.
Statement on Marriage, Gender and Sexuality
We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. (Gen. 1:26-27.) Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person.
We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. (Gen. 2:18-25.) We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other. (1 Cor. 6:18; 7:2-5; Heb. 13:4.)
We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman.
We believe that any form of sexual immorality (including adultery, fornication, homosexual behavior, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, and use of pornography) is sinful and offensive to God. (Matt. 15:18- 20; 1 Cor. 6:9-10.)
We believe that in order to preserve the function and integrity of Holland Rescue Mission as the local Body of Christ, and to provide a biblical role model to employees, volunteers, residents and the community, it is imperative that all persons employed by Holland Rescue Mission in any capacity, or who serve as volunteers, agree to and abide by this Statement on Marriage, Gender, and Sexuality. (Matt. 5:16; Phil. 2:14-16; 1 Thess. 5:22.)
We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. (Acts 3:19-21; Rom. 10:9-10; 1 Cor. 6:9-11.)
We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. (Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31.) Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture nor the doctrines of Holland Rescue Mission.
The statement of faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe. For purpose of Holland Rescue Mission’s faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, our board of directors is Holland Rescue Mission’s final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application.
