Why Biblical Counseling?
At it’s core, biblical counseling seeks to bring real hope and help to those who are facing times of crisis and difficulty by bringing to bear the life-transforming and life-directing truths of God’s Word.
Because crisis and difficulty of all sorts are the reality for so many who pass through doors, we believe that intentional and personal biblical counseling is an essential ingredient to help our guests establish new and godly thoughts, attitudes, actions, and habits, which are rooted in Jesus Christ and bring Him glory.
“And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.”
1 Thessalonians 5:14
Counseling for Guests
The initial purpose of biblical counseling at Holland Rescue Mission is to teach guests at the Mission, particularly students in the Gateway Program, the life-transforming principles in God’s Word. This is done through the development and implementation of a tailor-made Bible curriculum, focused specifically on their stage of life and the unique challenges they face, so that they have the Scriptural resources they need to make wise, godly decisions and to live a life that pleases and honors God.
Counseling Training for Staff
Training our staff in the principles of biblical counseling is foundational to the discipleship of men and women in our Gateway Program. Through an extensive training process, our staff will learn to use God’s Word to better equip and care for the guests they minister to daily.
Beyond the internal training and implementation of Biblical counseling, Holland Rescue Mission hopes to one day be a resource for training the broader community of faith. As a potential Biblical Counseling Training Center, we would develop counselors from local churches and organizations to effectively use God’s Word to reach our city with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our hope is that those in crisis would find hope and help through the authoritative and sufficient Word of God.
Become a Partner in this Ministry
There are two practical ways that you can help advance the biblical counseling ministry at Holland Rescue Mission:
- Pray – We are looking for prayer partners who will commit to praying fervently and effectively on our behalf as we train and counsel, that we would rightly use God’s Word in the lives of people. Pray that God would help us to identify partners who are willing to financially support this work. Pray that lives would be changed by the truth of God’s Word for His glory.
- Make a Financial Gift – While we believe God is leading us to grow a counseling ministry, it is not currently within the Mission’s annual budget. $50,000 is needed to support this ministry annually over the next two years. Would you consider making a one-time gift or ongoing commitment to the Mission?
